Controlling the Weather

While teachers can have a lifelong effect on the way students think, psychologist Haim Ginott has focused on a more immediate aspect of impact: the creation of a positive or negative physical and emotional environment that can determine the quality of a child’s life.

“I’ve come to a frightening conclusion,” he said. “I am the decisive element in the classroom. My personal approach creates the climate. My daily mood makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. It is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated, and a child humanized or dehumanized.”

Yet as profound as this observation is for professional educators, it’s even more so for parents. A parent’s power to create the daily climate and lasting environment in which a child grows is so awesome it must be used consciously and responsibly.

Since our daily moods make the weather, we should try to shield our children from the thunder and lightning of our frustrations and anger. Instead of the dark clouds of cynicism, fear and depression, we should discipline our own emotions and give them the light and warmth of love, hope and good cheer. Conscious efforts to be positive, enthusiastic, and supportive can have a huge impact not only on the emotional well-being of our children, but on their ability to experience the joys and pains of childhood in healthy and constructive ways.

This is also very true with cattle.  Your daily mood determines how your cattle feel!  Believe me…I know that this is true.  If you are angry and upset around your cattle they DO NOT like it, it makes them unhappy and sick!  If you are happy and enjoy being with your cattle, they love it and it will show in their performance.  If you don’t believe me, give me a call or email me and I will visit with you about this.

Everyone has the choice to be positive or negative.  You can take the same situation and while one person will see it as a negative situation, another person will see it as a positive situation.  It’s all in how YOU WANT to see it.  Why would anyone choose to be unhappy when they can choose to be happy?

It’s your choice and no one can choose it for you.  It’s that SIMPLE!

Camera Trouble!  -  Sorry I haven’t posted any pictures lately, but I have been having some trouble with my camera.  Hopefully it will be up & working within the next few days.

We shipped a load of 560# real nice black steers this morning.  Everything went really smooth.  We work with our cattle daily…this is the reason why everything works so well.  These cattle had already been on the scale, over the scale and just about everywhere else in our feedyard.  This way when we need to weigh them, sort them, ship them, or do anything else with them it isn’t any big deal to them OR us.  It is so nice to work in this kind of environment.  It’s a great day at the Bar M Bar Ranch!!

Create a Strong Belief in Yourself

Your beliefs about yourself and your capabilities will

determine the quality of your life. It’s quite simple. What

you believe will dictate what you attempt to do which will,

in turn, determine what you experience.

If you want to have a full, satisfying life, you’ll want to

create a strong belief about your possibilities and your

ability to have the kind of life you want.

In the course of studying success and successful people I

have uncovered several characteristics shared by virtually

all people who have become highly successful. One of the

primary characteristics they all share is a deeply rooted

belief in themselves and their ability to succeed.

Successful people are that way because of the beliefs they

hold about themselves. Successful people expect to succeed.

Unsuccessful people do not. It’s that simple. You too can

develop and strengthen your beliefs in yourself and your

ability to succeed in whatever you do.

Eliminate doubt and uncertainty from your life. Avoid asking

questions like, “What if I fail?,” or “What if it does not

work?” The very act of asking questions such as these will

create doubt in your mind and weaken your belief in

yourself.

Instead, ask empowering questions like, “What is the best

way to do this and ensure my success?” Or, you might ask

“How could I best achieve the results I am seeking?” Tell

yourself over and over that you can do it. Use visualization

and mental pictures to see yourself achieving a successful

outcome in whatever you attempt.

Think back in your life to times when you were successful

and replay those events in your mind. This will help boost

your self-confidence and affirm your belief in your own

abilities. Get rid of phrases like “I’ll try, I hope I can

and I think I can do it.”

Instead, replace them with affirmative statements such as “I

will do it, I will succeed, I can do it.” The more you

reinforce and strengthen your internal beliefs, the more

likely you are to succeed. Become an “I can” person and, as

the commercial says, “Just do it.”

Remember the words of the great American inventor, Thomas

Edison, who said, “If we did all the things we are capable

of doing, we would literally astonish ourselves. - Jim Donovan

“Life can be vibrant
with the proper perception.” -

Life has its ups and downs, good times and bad times, happiness and sorrow, easy streets and rough roads. Knowing this is seeing the big picture, and when we see the big picture we are able to identify the value in each and every experience that comes our way. Perception is the key to seeing the big picture, and we can benefit from all that we experience when we see each individual experience as it relates to the big picture. In the final analysis, positive perception is the key.

Life is what you make it, so make life purposeful, pleasant and productive!

“There are no hopeless situations; there are only people who have grown hopeless about them.”- Clare Boothe

Success is a step by step process and knowing that defeat is just another step towards success!

Often times we can learn from our mistakes if we have the right perception. Having a positive perception in all that we do gives us insight and an introspective that becomes valuable over time. This is especially true on the road to success which is a sequential process that proceeds step by step. The important thing to remember is that if there should be defeat along the way, that the defeat is only temporary and that defeat is just another step towards success when viewed properly.
